Coming up against the Thames path barrier the other day really pissed me off. I can’t take photos of this view again because this part of the path is still blocked off.

This photo was from an early part of my year of film & film developing, much of it spent walking along the path. I love the recursion of the verticals; the lamp posts, the chimneys and the fence posts. Even (well, especially, after all, this is what it is all about) the grain which enhances the mistiness of the late afternoon…

…but I want to do it again, with medium format film since I now have a much clearer visualisation of what I want, and enough knowledge of film dev to know how I want to process it to get what I want. This photo was part of a sketchbook of ideas and projects. I can’t re-take it though, because like much of Greenwich, it is inaccessible. I’m not even sure this particular view will ever be available again.

Fuck it. I hated being a neophyte but even more I hate being thwarted when I’m no longer a neophyte.

On the way up to the Dome (OK, the O2… ) the tide was right in. Had a coffee and a natter with Jeff at the tea hut outside the Dome. On the way back the tide was right out. There is one part of the river where it looks like they break up old boats and clambering over the piles of frosty sheet-metal in the name of art was slippery fun (lets see if that gets googled hehe).

there were several shapes that attracted me on the river walk. Structures and light and shadow.

A very grey day so I loaded the FM2n with Tri-X rated at 800 and souped it in APH09 (Rodinal) for an hour’s stand development. This is rapidly becoming one of my favourite developing combos. The 105 Nikkor also has really nice bokeh in my opinion.

The only drawback really is the NOISE of the FM2n. The shutter/mirror sounds like a gun firing. Either it has got louder over the years or I’ve just forgotten how loud it is.
