The Book Of Pyro

Pyrogallol was a very popular dev for glass plates in the 1880s, the most popular in fact. It (the modern PMK formula) is a staining developer that emphasises sharpness and detail very subtly. It has been described as ‘Rodinal on steroids’ so naturally I want to check it out.

I was lucky to track down a copy of the book since it seems to be rarer than the proverbial hen’s teeth (in the UK anyway). My copy has even been signed by Gordon. It arrived from the USA packed in an absurdly large box for such a slim volume.

A bag of PMK Pyro awaits too. Ideally, I just need an 8×10 view camera for completeness. Oh well, I wish.

Now I will have to stock-up on rubber gloves since pyrogallol has some toxic qualities I really don’t want to explore personally.

My next project anyway.
