I’ve wondered what the gaping spaces below the apartments were for and I’m guessing other people did too. Now we no longer need to be bereft of ideas because the developers have come up with some.

A misty day begs a visit to Severndroog Castle, a curiosity at the best of times. The folly belies perspective and the mist (not flare) gives it an even more timeless quality. Or does it?

I’m using the GRDIII with the 21mm adaptor, one of my favourite digi cameras despite the small(ish) sensor and fixed lens (because, rather than despite, I lurve the fixed lens…)

Blakemere Moss, a huge lake in Delamere Forest, has completely frozen over and I was able to walk out onto the ice (carefully).

I assume that the lake is artificial because the trees sticking out out of it don’t look like natural lake dwellers… and these two rows of stumps are long enough to be a landing strip.

I have never seen such a large expanse of water so frozen before. I must live a sheltered life!

The light was fabulous, the far side of the lake was glowing. Then iron grey clouds replaced the sun and it started snowing again.

The Dog was in his element – though I was aware of the potential for a Darwin Award if The Dog went through the ice & I had to make the decision to rescue him and die in the process.

Bullrushes (I think!) Wonderful.

I’ve just updated the GRDIII firmware and there is an interesting new option in the ‘scene’ setting – high contrast black & white. Yummy! So I thought I’d try it, having only used AP & RAW (with my own saved settings) on this little digi (the ‘scene’ setting doesn’t write to RAW, only jpg).

Remind me never to use the ‘scene’ settings again. I had no idea what was going on in the camera, or how to control it. The exif is mad (ISO 800 set by the camera & it was so sunny I had to use EV -2 just to get anything nearly exposed, it seemed to be the only control). And I wasn’t happy with the other photos. I’m guessing this ‘scene’ is for indoors or that I should at least RTFM before slagging it off.

With my workflow I’ll stick to RAW & post-processing, it makes more sense for me.

Back to this photo. I like the rectangles and triangles, plus the flattened plane of the photo. So not all bad.

I’m in Brighton. With Kate. I had a little Ricoh GR1v, not expecting much from the film (fairly sure it was FP4+).

Since then the negs have been destroyed or lost. All I have left is some crappy jpegs from a scanner.

Summer 2003 was hot. We slept outside in a yard in Kennington.

38 degrees C. Music from house parties all around us.

None of these photos are *correct* (like so many of mine are not) but they mean more to me than almost all of the other photos on this site. It is my emotional response that is important.

This may have been taken with a very early Nikon digi around about the year 2000.

At the time I was very impressed with it.

The Lobster is behind the Diana mask, look carefully and you can see his eye.

I have absolutely no recollection of why there was a Diana mask. It looks like an early model though.

I took photos of all of them on a crappy compact camera & most had camera shake because there was no light and the lens was slooooow. Shame.

When I finally got round to photographing them again the Cutty Sark had gone…

And it has been gone for a very long time now.

I can’t believe this gorgeous evidence of pent-up sailors’ sexuality will be displayed as well in the new ‘Olympics 2012′ model. No sex please, we are British and we have corporate sponsors.
