Vanishing Point

Not a reference to one of my all time fave films by Richard C. Sarafian bizarrely starring Petrocelli Barry Newman. I’m in good company though, Primal Scream rated it too.

No, the Peninsula is literally being lifted, spirited away, disappearing before my eyes. Keeping up with the fave film meme here;)

Wednesday’s dog shoot left me almost unable to walk. 15-20kg on my back, continually squatting to make eye-contact with dogs, left my legs like jelly, like I’d been circuit-training for two days. I was thinking of being lazy but it was such a beautiful day I went wandering along the Thames.

I’m really glad that (a) I went in that direction (b) I had a camera, even if it was just the digi and (c) I’d remembered to replace the SD card and charged the battery. These cylinders/silos or whatever are (apparently) 60 tons each and the floating crane was appropriately humongous enough to lift them and drop them in a barge.

Naturally, Gizmo the Mentalist felt obliged to bark long and hard as the silo was lifted overhead, blotting out the sun and my hearing.

Further down, the demolition continues. We wont be seeing the towers on the right much longer, and those on the left are due to be blown-up shortly. Hope I’m there for that one.

The other side of the tower above. The back-end has gone already.

I think we know what will be replacing these.

Nuff said… though to be fair this was shot in Deptford today, but only a bit further up the Thames at Convoy’s Wharf. Same rules apply.

Good shots – I’ve been meaning to get round that side of the Peninsula, but work and bad weather keeps getting in the way.
