We had a coffee at the Deptford Project Cafe. They do a really good Americano.
The Lobster will hate this photo but I like the two smiles
The cafe is a converted railway carriage outside Deptford Station. It has a decking terrace so it is good to be able to sit outside, although it is pretty funky inside too (as is the loo!). It is part of an attempt to tart-up the decrepit station area and in my view seems part of the creeping Shorditchification of Deptford (Deptford and Shoreditch happen to be linked by the umbullicus bus route, the 47 – one of my fave buses). It is of course good to get a decent coffee on your doorstep, but at what price… I feel a bit guilty because for the last few years I’ve been using the other cafes down the High Street. Great for fry-ups, but crapola coffee. Jenny’s Cafe recommended, or just round the corner is the awesome Golden Cafe, part of the holy trinity of the Golden Chippy and Golden Vinyard – what more could you need & Chris the owner is very accomodating.
And guess what? Through the window there is somebody on a mobile…Â tis a real train after all.
I’d say it is fairly impossible round here to use the Rolleiflex covertly. One guy did a cartoon double take – ‘Fuck me, did you get that down the market?’ he gasped… Looking closer ‘No, I don’t suppose you did.’ Turns out he has picked up the odd Kodak from the stall round the corner. I might go and have a poke around myself, who knows what might be there.
I wanted to try the Rolleinar 2, a close up lens for focussing between 30-50cms. Unbelievably I used the two peices of the Rolleinar the wrong way round… no wonder the parallax correction seemed buggered. I’m surprised I got anything!
I need a little more practice I think, and perhaps take time to RTFM (there is no FM… just the interwebs).
Here is another. Focus on the base of the pepper pot.
Whatever, I lurve the creamy dreamy bokeh from the out of focus areas… but I’m a bokeh tart no question. I’ll be playing with the Rolleinar more and see what the results are in their correct orientation. I feel a little foolish.
Now I need to find a Rolleinar 1 which allows a slightly longer focus length more suited to portraits.
I’m now convinced the HP5+ EI200 & HC-110 dilution ‘H’ combo work well for me and will continue to use it. I am awaiting some 110 FP4+ and looking forward to developing that in Rodinal. Perhaps shot at EI80 instead of 125 if the sun ever shines again during this crapout wet summer in London.
