Moulin blanc et noir 1996

1996, Moulin des Grels, on the Riviere la Durenque near Noailhac near Castres near Toulouse. Not really near anywhere… I found the negs recently and scanned them.

I’d just got the FM2n and hadn’t really got a clue. Somehow I’d managed to drink half a bottle of brandy before lunch. Focus obviously suffered. I was struggling with the manual camera anyway. All things considered, the narrative works better than the individual photos.

The light was very contrasty. Bright sun filtered through the thick tree canopy and reflecting on the water. For some reason I was using HP5+, an ISO400 film. They were developed locally in Castres.

The main reason for taking these photos was the boys in the water.

The waterfall behind them drove the millwheel in times past and it is ferocious after rain in the hills. You can see the massive tree that has been carried over.

15 seconds was about all I could manage underneath it. I couldn’t even traverse it. The water was too heavy and the noise intense.

The boys had fun though, moving too fast for me though.

There were a couple of photos where they were more stationary.
